Passports

To enter French Guiana, Americans, Australians, British and Canadians should ensure that their passport has at least three (3) months of validity after the date they intend to leave French Guiana.

EU nationals: As French Guiana is an Overseas Department of France (département d’outre-mer), technically EU nationals can enter with an ID card, but check with your transport provider first, as you may need a passport to board the flight or the ship.

 

Visas

Visas for French Guiana are not required by the nationals referred to in the chart above for touristic stays of up to 90 days, provided that they hold a return ticket.

All visitors to or passing through French Guiana must have a yellow fever vaccination certificate.

Nationals not referred to in the chart above are advised to contact the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Short-stay: €60.

Validity

Short-stay 90 days within a six-month period; long-stay visa: valid for stays of over three months.

Schengen visas

French Guiana is an Overseas Department of France (département d’outre-mer) and part of the European Union. However, it is not part of the Schengen Area. You cannot enter French Guiana with a short-stay Schengen visa issued by France or other Schengen countries. You are required to obtain a separate visa to enter French Guiana.

Working days

Allow 15 days for visa processing.

Extension of stay

EU nationals staying longer than three months must register at the préfecture to apply for a carte de séjour.

Other nationals require a long-stay visa.
