Stavanger tours and excursions
Stavanger tours
Guide Companiet offers two hour walking tours of the city centre throughout the summer, beginning near the Cathedral. The guides provide a good general background to Stavanger’s history and add some juicy local tales too.
Excursions from Stavanger
Within easy striking distance of Stavanger is some of Norway’s wildest scenery with a string of pencil-thin fjords jagging deep into the interior framed and flanked by mighty mountain peaks. The star turn here is the 42km-long (26m) Lysefjord, which can be visited on regular boat trips between June and September.
More energetic visitors can also view the Lysefjord from the top of Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock). Its summit is a square and flat plateau 600m (1,968ft) above the fjord. Preikestolen is a relatively easy, two-hour hike each way from the nearest bus stop.
