Getting around Queenstown
Queenstown is small enough to explore on foot. The only public transport available is the bus service operated by Connectabus (tel: +64 3 441 4471; www.connectabus.com). Bus services start outside the O'Connell's Shopping Centre, Camp Street, and stop at the airport, as well as many hotels.
You can pay by cash or using a reloadable GoCard. One- and seven-day passes are available.
The main taxi providers in Queenstown are Alpine Taxi (tel: +64 3 442 6666) and Queenstown Taxis (tel: +64 3 450 3000).
It doesn’t make much sense to drive around Queenstown, as the centre is so compact. Parking is also severely limited.
Car hire companies in Queenstown include Apex (tel: 0800 500 660, in New Zealand; www.apexrentals.co.nz), Hertz (tel: +64 3 442 4106; www.hertz.com) and Network Car Rentals (tel: 0800 427 055 or +64 3 442 7055; www.networkcarrentals.co.nz).
Outside Sports has a specialised bike store at 9 Shotover Street (tel: +64 3 441 0074; www.outsidesports.co.nz), which rents out tough off-road bikes.
