Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport Guide (OLB)
The airport is located 2.5km (1.5 miles) south of the city of Olbia.
Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport is a predominantly seasonal facility serving the northern end of the Italian island of Sardinia. Our Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport guide provides details on transport routes to and from the airport, terminal facilities and accommodation options nearby.
There is a tourist information counter (Infopoint Ciaosardinia) located in the airport's Arrivals area.
From central Olbia, follow the SS127 (which merges with the SS125) then turn right onto Via Degli Astronauti, which leads into the airport complex.
Public Transport
Bus: Bus number 2 and 10 (tel: +39 800 191 847; www.aspoolbia.it) run frequently between the airport and central Olbia (journey time: 15-20 minutes; fare: €1).
Taxi: Taxis are available 24 hours from close to the Arrivals area. Journey time into the city is 10-15 minutes, and fares start at around €15-20.
Terminal facilities
Public telephones are dotted throughout the terminal complex, and free Wi-Fi is accessible in all areas.
The airport has a full-service restaurant overlooking the runway, plus several cafés and a wine bar promoting the island's viticulture.
There is a good range of shops available in the airport, offering local gifts, souvenirs and food items. There are also duty-free goods available for passengers leaving the EU.
Left-luggage storage is available, and is housed in an office in the car park in front of the terminal.
Airport facilities
The airport has a business centre incorporating four meeting rooms (tel: +39 0789 645 744; www.mbcolbia.com) located on the first floor of the terminal.
The airport is fully accessible, with lifts, disabled toilet facilities and specially adapted telephones. Designated disabled parking is available immediately opposite the terminal entrance, and there are special meeting points within the terminals for those requiring help. There is a special room dedicated to welcoming and assisting disabled passengers, along with a meeting point after baggage reclaim. Any passengers who may require additional assistance are advised to contact their airline before travelling.
Parking is available at the airport with space for around 1,000 vehicles and is available immediately outside the terminal building. The car park is divided into long-term, short-term and premium (the latter for locally-based subscribers). For additional information call: +39 0789 563 471.
International car rental companies, Avis, Europcar, Hertz and Maggiore are represented at the airport, along with several local operators. The car rental centre is located about 50m (164ft) from Arrivals.
This large and elegant hotel is located in the city centre overlooking the new harbour. A range of rooms and suites is available, some with balconies, and the hotel has three conference/events rooms capable of seating up to 180 delegates.
Another 4-star option very close to the airport is the ultra-modern Jazz Hotel. This property caters for meetings and events, and offers a gourmet restaurant, open air swimming pool, poolside cocktail bar, and (last but not least) Turkish baths.
One of the few international branded hotels on the island, the Doubletree is also located in the city centre, close to the harbour. It features an outdoor pool and offers four meeting rooms, along with a restaurant, fitness centre and panoramic views from most rooms.
A less pricey option, the Hotel de Plam is situated in the heart of Olbia close to the harbour front. Its restaurant offers traditional Italian and Sardinian food and all rooms are air-conditioned.
For those prefer local history to swanky modern hotels, the La Locanda del Conte Mameli – a former home of nobility - is a terrific choice. Although classified as 3-star, this small city hotel has eight rooms and suites, and the breakfast room features genuine Roman relics.
A slightly less opulent option, the Mercure nevertheless offers a good range of comforts, including indoor pool with sauna, restaurant and bar, and meeting rooms for business purposes. It's located on the western fringe of the city, but is still relatively close to the sea.
