Turin experiences cold, dry winters and hot summers. Summer temperatures average around 24°C (75°F) with the hottest month being July. Thunderstorm can occurs in the summer, but rainfall is heaviest in spring, particularly May, as well as the autumn. Autumn and winter are renowned for thick blankets of fog, which roll in from the plains and which can make visibility very poor. The coldest month is January when temperatures drop to around 3°C (37°F).
