Passports

A passport valid for at least six months is required by all nationals referred to in the chart.

Visas

Nationals from Argentina, Belarus, Brazil, Chile, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macao, Serbia and the United States of America can visit Mongolia without a visa for up to 90 days.

Nationals from Canada, Cuba, Germany, Israel, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey and Uruguay can visit Mongolia without a visa for up to 30 days.

Nationals from the Philippines can visit Mongolia without a visa for up to 21 days, while Hong Kong passport holders can visit Mongolia without a visa for up to 14 days.

Visa on arrival: Visa on arrival is only applicable to visitors from a country with no Mongolian consulate, as well as nationals from Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom (see below). In the case of visa on arrival, you (or your local sponsor) must have already submitted a request to the Mongolian Immigration Authority and they have confirmed that you can obtain a visa on arrival at Chinggis Khaan International Airport before you leave. You must have with you the complete visa application, a passport that is valid for at least six months upon arrival, hotel confirmation, a passport photo, and a return/onward ticket. The fee is US$30 or 108,000 Mongolian tögrög.

British passport holders: As of 1 May 2019, your sponsors in Mongolia can request entry permissions online for your visa on arrival. This is for single or multiple-entry visas for tourism and business categories only.

Obtaining China and Russia in Mongolia: you are advised to arrange for China and/or Russia visas before your travel to Mongolia as obtaining visas for China and Russia can be difficult once you are there.

Visa note

Do you need to register with the authority after you have arrived? The general guideline is all visitors who intend to stay for more than 30 days must register with the Mongolian Immigration Agency in Ulaanbaatar within seven (7) days of your arrival.

Types and cost

Single-entry: GBP£40 (5 working days) or GBP£55 (1 working day).
Double-entry: GBP£55 (5 working days) or GBP£75 (1 working day).
Multiple-entry: GBP£70 (5 working days) or GBP£90 (1 working day).
Business-single: GBP£40 (5 working days) or GBP£60 (1 working day). Invitation from a Mongolia partner is required.

Transit

Nationals transiting via train can apply for a single- or double-entry transit visa.

Application to

Working days

Visa processing takes two to five days.

Entry with children

Adults accompanying children other than their own should bring a notarised letter from the child's parent/legal guardian authorising them to travel.

Exit permission

Visitors who have been in Mongolia for more than 90 days must obtain an exit visa from the Office of Immigration which usually takes 10 days to process.
