Guadalajara Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport Guide (GDL)
Also known as Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport, Guadalajara International Airport serves Mexico's second-largest city Guadalajara, and is one of the country’s busiest air facilities. A telephone information service (tel: +52 33 3688 5120) is available. For airport information once within the terminal buildings, passengers should go to the help desk of the airline with which they are flying. There is also a tourist information desk, which offers a hotel booking service.
The domestic and international terminals are located a short walk apart.
To reach the airport from Guadalajara, take Highway 23 in the direction of Chapala - the highway leads directly to the airport, which is around 15km (10 miles) from Chapala. The total drive time from Guadalajara to the airport is approximately 30 minutes.
Public Transport
Shuttle:The airport Servicio Colectivo airport minibus meets all flights outside the main terminal building and takes passengers to the city centre every hour (journey time: 35 minutes; fare: around MX$120). Tickets are available for purchase at the booths outside the arrivals areas.
Taxi:Authorised taxis are available at both terminals (tel: +52 33 3688 6002): these can be paid for and reserved at counters in Arrivals. Fares are fixed on a zonal basis and cost from MX$250-300 for the 30-minute trip into the city.
Terminal facilities
There are several ATMs within the airport complex. Currency exchange services can be found at two kiosks.
Paid-for Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Guadalajara International Airport. Additionally, free Wi-Fi is available for customers at several cafés and restaurants. A post office is also located on the airport site.
There are several shops at the airport, including a duty-free outlet in the Departures area.
There is no left-luggage facility at the airport. For lost items, contact the airport’s main number (tel: +52 33 3688 5248) or enquire at the relevant airline help desk. A baggage wrapping service is available within the terminals.
Airport facilities
Four VIP lounges are available, including one for American Express cardholders. Meeting facilities are available in city hotels, the nearest of which is the Hampton Inn (tel: +52 33 3164 1800; www.hamptoninn3.hilton.com).
Car parking is available opposite Terminal 1, with short- and long-term spaces available.
Car hire companies: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National, Sixt and Thrifty are represented at the airport, along with a number of local operators.
Hotels
There is currently no on-site hotel available at Guadalajara International Airport following the closure of the on-site Hotel Casa Grande Aeropuerto in 2015. However, a number of hotels are located a short drive from the airport complex, with further choice available nearer the city centre. A hotel reservation service is available at the tourist information desk, which can assist with bookings.
A bit further towards the city, the 5-star Hotel Posada Virreyes is situated in the Tlaquepaque district of Guadalajara. It boasts an Argentinian style restaurant, and meeting/event facilities are available for business travellers.
About 10 minutes' drive from the airport towards the city, the Hampton Inn is one of two budget hotels in the vicinity. It offers meeting facilities, a business centre, gym and swimming pool.
Close to the Hampton Inn, this is a new hotel with 108 rooms. The Holiday Inn Express Guadalajara-Aeropuerto also offers an outdoor pool and a business centre, while a restaurant is located adjacent to the property.
