Currency information

Euro (EUR; symbol €) = 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of €500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of €2 and 1, and 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cents.

Credit cards

Credit and debit cards are increasingly accepted in major cities, hotels, restaurants, and larger shops. However, cash is essential in rural areas and for small purchases.

ATM

ATMs are widely available in cities, dispensing euros.

Mon-Fri 09:00 to 16:30.

Currency restriction

Amounts of €10,000 or more (or equivalent) must be declared upon entry or exit.

Currency exchange

Currency exchange is available at banks and licensed exchange offices. Rates at border points tend to be less favourable.

Kosovo duty free

Travellers aged 17 and over may import the following goods into Kosovo without paying customs duty, according to Kosovo Customs Regulation No. 02/2024:

• 200 cigarettes, or 100 cigarillos, or 50 cigars, or 250g of smoking tobacco. These products may be combined provided the total does not exceed the allowed limits.
• 1 litre of spirits over 22% alcohol by volume, or 2 litres of alcoholic beverages up to 22% alcohol by volume.
• 2 litres of still wine.
• 50ml of perfume and 250ml of eau de toilette.
• Other goods up to a total value of €175 for air travellers (reduced to €90 for travellers under 15).

Travellers under 17 years old may not bring in tobacco or alcohol products.
