Canada’s largest and busiest airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport serves Toronto, the capital of Ontario province. The airport is named in honour of Lester B. Pearson, the 14th Prime Minister of Canada. Information

Information desks are located on the arrivals levels of both terminals. Uniformed assistants are also on hand to help with enquiries.

Transfer between terminals

The airport's LINK train offers free transportation between Terminal 1, Terminal 3, the Sheraton Gateway Hotel and Viscount Station with stops at the Value Park Lot, Value Park Garage and the ALT Hotel. The train runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week; departures every four to eight minutes and is wheelchair accessible. Travel time between stations is two to eight minutes.

Driving directions

From central Toronto, follow the Gardiner Expressway westbound and turn north on Highway 427. The airport is clearly signposted from this road after around 10km (6 miles). The driving time is approximately 35 minutes.

Public Transport

Public transport rail

 The Union Pearson Express (www.upexpress.com/; tel: + 1 416 869 3300 is a high speed train service, connecting downtown Toronto and Toronto Pearson International Airport, Terminal 1, stopping en route at Weston and Bloor; daily departures every 15 minutes from 0530 to 0100, journey time approx 25 minutes. C$12.35 one way.

Public transport road

Bus:Public bus services are provided by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) (tel: +1 416 393 4636; www.ttc.ca). The 900 Airport Express provides an all-day accessible service between the airport and Kipling Station on the Linke 2 the Bloor-Danforth Subway (journey time: 20-25 minutes; fare: C$3.25), from which travellers can take the subway to downtown Toronto. Service operates from approximately 0530-0200 Mon-Sat and from approximately 0815 to 0215 Sun.

There are other bus and coach services to Toronto and the surrounding areas. Information is available from the ground transportation desks in the arrivals hall of each terminal.

Taxi:The tariff for taxis and limousines to/from the airport is based on metered rates, with updated tariffs and company listings available on the airport website; pick-up points at the Arrivals levels in both terminals. Fares to central Toronto start from around C$50 (taxi), C$60 (limousine).

Money

Bureaux de change, banks and ATMs are available throughout both terminals.

Communication

Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Toronto Pearson International Airport. Postboxes are located in the departure areas and stamps are sold at newstands in both terminals.

Food

There is a good selection of bars and restaurants throughout the airport, both pre- and post-security. These include everything from Italian eateries and burger joints to Irish-themed pubs.

Shopping

There are numerous shops at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The options pre-security in Terminal 1 includes a newsagents and a travel accessories store, while in Terminal 3 there are a handful of the expected souvenir shops. The post-security areas of both terminals offer a more varied selection, including duty-free outlets.

Luggage

A porter service and left-luggage facilities are available in both terminals. Trolleys are located throughout the terminals and parking garages. Any items found in the airport’s terminal buildings are handed over to the Customer and Terminal Services Department (tel: +1 416 247 7678) of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. Items are stored for one month. Winter clothing storage is also available for those heading to warmer climates.

Other

A counselling service is available for all passengers. Inter-faith chapels, baby change facilities and shoeshine services are located in both terminals. There is a lost property office on the Ground Level of Terminal, open daily 0900-1700 (for lost passports, contact the Canada Border Service Agency, tel +1 905 676 5380).

Conference and business

There is a choice of six premium lounges at the airport. A fully equipped business centre and meeting space for up to 300 delegates is available within the Sheraton Gateway Hotel (tel: +1 905 672 7000; www.starwoodhotels.com) located at Terminal 3.

Disabled facilities

There are lifts, ramps, disabled toilets and TTY telephones in all terminals. The inter-terminal LINK train and Terminal Link bus are wheelchair-accessible and disabled parking spaces are provided in all car parks. When making a flight reservation, travellers should notify the airline of any special assistance requirements (tel: +1 416 247 7678).

Car parking

There are more than 15,000 car parking spaces at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Short-term parking is located in car parks linked to both terminals – the Express Car Park at Terminal 1 is only available for stays of up to three hours. There are reduced rate, long-stay car parks on Viscount Road and Airport Road; these are connected to the airport terminals by the free LINK train. A free ‘cell phone waiting lot’ is available for drivers picking up arriving passengers for up to 45 minutes.

Car rental

Avis, Budget, Dollar/Thrifty, Enterprise, Hertz and National/Alamo are represented at counters on level 1 of the car parks linked to the terminals. Discount, E-Z Trans Canada, Fox and Payless are among the companies located off-site; pick ups from Viscount Station, on the Terminal Link route. Pre-arranged courtesy vans transport customers to the off-site hire car offices. Alternatively customers can use the free LINK train to reach the site.

Hotels

The Sheraton Gateway is the only hotel at Toronto Pearson International Airport, but there is a selection nearby - many of these hotels operate shuttle services for guests. Hotel listings and telephones for reservations are located in the arrivals areas of the terminals.
