Currency information

Rouble (RUB; symbol руб) = 100 kopeks. Notes are in denominations of 5,000, 1,000, 500, 100, 50, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of 10, 5, 2 and 1, and 50, 10, 5 and 1 kopeks.

Credit cards

International credit and debit cards, including Visa and MasterCard, are not accepted in Russia.

ATM

ATMs are widely available across Russia, but some credit and debit cards are unsupported due to restrictions. Confirm with your bank before traveling to ensure access to your funds.

Travellers cheques

Traveller's cheque is no longer popular.

Currency restriction

Import: You can carry foreign currency worth up to 10,000 US dollars into Russia without declaring it.

Export: When you leave Russia, you must declare any foreign currency exceeding 3,000 US dollars. Be aware that carrying more than 10,000 US dollars may lead to detention in some cases (even if you have declared it).

Currency exchange

You can exchange foreign currencies for Russian roubles at banks, hotels and licensed exchange bureaus. Keep all receipts. Avoid dealing with any street traders.
