Traditional masses held in churches across the country in the week leading up to Christmas; giant Nacimientos – Nativity scenes – are displayed in main squares and churches. San Joaquín (Carabobo state) holds a famously popular pageant, with costumed shepherds leading a procession to the church, followed by singing and dancing in the main square.
