San Antonio International Airport can be reached via Interstate 10 from the north, interstate 35 from the east and Highway 90 from the west.
From central San Antonio, take Highway 281 North, and take the airport exit just after Interstate 410 onto South Terminal Drive. The total drive time from central San Antonio to the airport is approximately 15 minutes.
Public Transport
Bus: VIA Metropolitan Transit (tel: +1 210 362 2020; www.viainfo.net) bus 5 connects the city and San Antonio International Airport (journey time: 30 minutes).
Shuttle: Shared-ride shuttles are available from Super Shuttle (tel: +1 210 258 3826; supershuttle.com), which provides a regular service to downtown San Antonio hotels. A number of which provide their own complimentary transportation.
Taxi: Taxis run between central San Antonio and San Antonio International Airport (journey time: 15 minutes).
Terminal facilities
Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout San Antonio International Airport. Telephones situated opposite the baggage reclaim areas of both terminals can be used to find hotel information and to contact car hire companies. Public telephones are also widely available.
There is a wide choice of restaurants, fast-food outlets, cafés and bakeries in both terminals. For those seeking a relaxing drink, there is a sports bar in Terminal A and two bars in Terminal B.
Numerous shops can be explored at San Antonio International Airport, including duty-free for international passengers, souvenir outlets and a number of specialist retailers.
Airport facilities
Marcy's Business & Travel Centre (tel: +1 210 892 1100) in Terminal A offers business facilities and meeting/conference rooms. The nearby Hilton San Antonio Airport hotel (tel: +1 210 340 6060; www3.hilton.com) also provides conference facilities, including a business centre and meeting rooms with audiovisual equipment for hire and secretarial services.
There are adapted lifts, toilets and ramps in both terminals, as well as telephones for the hearing impaired. Wheelchair assistance is available (tel: +1 210 207 3820). Designated parking spaces are available for disabled drivers. Go Airport Shuttle buses are wheelchair-accessible, as are taxis from a number of providers.
There are two large covered parking areas (tel: +1 210 207 3465) for hourly and long-term parking: the hourly area is directly opposite the terminals, while the long-term car park is a little further away. There are also two additional, uncovered areas for short- and long-term rates. An economy car park, which is further from the terminals, is connected to the terminals by a free shuttle service. Adjacent to this area is a 'cell phone' waiting area provided for those meeting arriving passengers.
There are several on-site car hire companies at San Antonio International Airport, including: Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty. Agency desks are located inside Terminal A and shuttle services transport travellers to pick-up and drop-off centres.
Featuring free Wi-Fi internet access and meeting space for up to 60 people, the Courtyard is a good business option. But it’s also good for shoppers, being situated adjacent to the North Star Mall. A free 24-hour airport shuttle service operates from Monday to Friday.
Housing a grill restaurant and a lounge bar, the Hilton San Antonio Airport offers accommodation within a 3km (2 mile) radius of San Antonio International Airport. Meeting space is available for hire, while those seeking to relax can use the fitness centre and pool.
With its close proximity to the North Star shopping centre, a free shuttle service and complimentary breakfast, the Fairfield is a convenient and good value choice. Its on-site restaurant specialises in Cajun food, and there is a fitness centre and indoor pool to enjoy.
The Holiday Inn Express San Antonio Airport provides accommodation less than 3km (2 miles) from San Antonio International Airport. On-site facilities include a business centre and three meeting rooms. A free shuttle bus service to the airport is available.
This mid-range hotel is only 1.6 km (1 mile) from the airport terminals, to which it is linked via a free shuttle service. A good option for those travelling on business, the Holiday Inn features a self-service business centre, dedicated 'executive' floors and extensive meeting space. Leisure facilities here include an outdoor pool, whirlpool and two on-site restaurants.
One of the closest hotels to San Antonio International Airport, being just 0.8km (0.5 miles) from the terminals, the low-cost Days Inn offers a free airport transfer shuttle service, together with an outdoor pool and complimentary breakfast.
