Buffalo Niagara International Airport Guide (BUF)
Buffalo Niagara International Airport is the third busiest airport in New York State and serves Buffalo and Southern Ontario as well as popular tourist hotspot Niagara Falls. Featuring transport, accommodation and airport facility information, our Bordeaux Airport guide is a useful tool for those travelling through the airport.
An information centre is located on the lower level of the terminal, next to baggage reclaim. The centre can provide maps and regional information as well as bus timetables and brochures; there is also a courtesy paging telephone. During busy times, Volunteer Hospitality Ambassadors are available to assist passengers with information.
From the centre of Buffalo, take the Kensington Expressway (33) east and follow the signs to the airport. The total drive time from the city centre is roughly 20 minutes.
Public Transport
Bus:NFTA-Metro (tel: +1 716 855 7300; www.metro.nfta.com) operates bus services between Buffalo Niagara International Airport and various places in and around Buffalo. The Airport-Downtown Metro 204 Express runs from the airport to central Buffalo approximately once every 30 minutes (journey time: approximately 35 minutes; fare: US$2.50). The bus stop is located outside Arrivals. Bus 24 also links to the city for a US$2 fee.
From central Buffalo, buses can be caught to numerous locations, including Niagara Falls (Bus 24) and Toronto (Megabus).
Taxi:The Airport Taxi Service (tel: +1 716 633 8294; www.buffaloairporttaxi.com) operates taxis to/from Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Fare information is posted inside the taxis and passengers can obtain an estimate from the driver before setting off. The average fare to central Buffalo starts at around US$25, and approximately US$55 to Niagara Falls.
Terminal facilities
ATMs are located after security on the upper level (next to the Monarch gift shop) and in the baggage reclaim area on the lower level of the terminal.
Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
The Lake Erie Grille serves food and drinks in the 'meet and greet' area before security. Further options such as bars, sandwich vendors and cafés are available in the food court, post-security. Vending machines are located on the lower level.
There is a newsagent and gift shop on the upper level of the airport. Souvenirs can be purchased from the Visit Buffalo Niagara office near gate 7.
There is a lost property service at the airport (tel: +1 716 630 6000); there is also a designated service for passenger items lost in the parking areas or on the shuttle bus (tel: +1 716 634 0315). Luggage trolleys are also available at the airport free of charge.
Airport facilities
There are limited business facilities at Buffalo Niagara International Airport. US Airways has an executive lounge for club members on the upper level. Meeting and conference facilities are available at numerous local hotels including the Millennium Hotel Buffalo (tel: +1 716 681 2400; www.millenniumhotels.com), which is a short drive away.
The terminal is equipped with a range of facilities for disabled visitors. Among these are: lifts, escalators, ramps, TDD telephones, Braille signage, disabled toilet facilities and accessible ATMs.
There are dedicated drop-off parking spaces for disabled passengers immediately outside the terminal on the lower level (Arrivals). Car parks are fully accessible and free car parking is granted to disabled visitors in the short-stay car park. Most shuttle buses are wheelchair accessible.
Aircraft lift devices are available for passengers who may require assistance with embarking/disembarking aircrafts. Passengers requiring such special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel.
There is a covered short-term car park directly outside the terminal building. The long-term car park, primarily for daily or long weekend trips, is located within walking distance of the terminal. Two further long-term car parks are designed for longer trips.
All long-term car parks are linked to the terminal 24 hours a day by free shuttle buses – parking is free of charge for the first two hours in the long-term car parks. There is also a free waiting area (cell phone lot) for drivers meeting arriving passengers. Information on car parking is available from Standard Parking (tel: +1 716 630 6191).
Car hire companies Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and National are all represented at Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Desks for these providers are located on the ground level of the short-term car park, immediately opposite Arrivals.
Located within walking distance of Buffalo Niagara International Airport, Hilton Garden Inn Buffalo Airport boasts an on-site restaurant and a swimming pool.
The 300-room Millennium Hotel Buffalo is a short drive from Buffalo Niagara International Airport. The hotel offers free parking, airport transfers, a business centre, indoor pool, fitness centre and a sauna. Meeting/event space is also available for those travelling on business.
Holiday Inn Express Buffalo Airport is located next to Buffalo Niagara International Airport and provides a complimentary shuttle bus service. Hotel facilities include an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, games room and fitness centre.
Adjacent to the airport site, Quality Inn Airport provides a complimentary shuttle bus service to/from the terminal. Hotel facilities include an exercise room, games room and high-speed internet access.
The recently refurbished Sleep Inn & Suites Buffalo Airport is located next to Buffalo Niagara International Airport and is linked via a complimentary shuttle bus service. Hotel facilities include an exercise room, wireless internet access and business services.
