Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, also known as Honolulu International Airport, is Hawaii's main international airport and serves the state’s capital Honolulu, on the island of Oahu. From Waikiki, drive to the end of Kalakaua Avenue and turn left onto S Beretania Street then right onto Keeaumoku Street. Follow Keeaumoku Avenue, take a sharp left to stay on Keeaumoku. Follow Keeamoku St as it turns right and becomes Lunalilo Street. Use the left lane on Lunalilo Street where it will merge into the H-1 freeway. Take the H-1 westbound and follow signs to Honolulu International Airport.
Public Transport
Bus:There are several city bus routes serving Honolulu International Airport. The city bus system in Honolulu is called 'TheBus' (tel: +1 808 848 4500; www.thebus.org). Bus 19 eastbound and bus 20 follow different routes to central Waikiki. Westbound, bus 19 goes to Hickham Air Force Base, while bus 20 links to the Pearlridge Shopping Centre, both via central Honolulu. One-way fares cost US$2.50.
Shuttle:The 24-hour SpeediShuttle (tel: +1 877 242 5777; www.speedishuttle.com) serves hotels in Waikiki. The fare to Waikiki or Honolulu Harbour is US$15.48, including up to two bags.
Taxi:AMPCO Express (tel: +1 808 861 8294) is Honolulu International Airport's authorised taxi service. Taxis are available outside the arrivals hall. The fare from Honolulu International Airport to Waikiki is about US$35-40, plus a baggage charge of 50 cents per bag.
Terminal facilities
Paid-for Wi-Fi internet access is available inside the security areas of Honolulu International Airport; fixed internet stations are also available. There is a post office in the Overseas Terminal (main terminal). Phone recharging points are also available.
There are plenty of bars, cafés and restaurants, including fast food chains such as Pizza Hut, at Honolulu International Airport, the majority of which are located in the Overseas Terminal. There is one bar serving snacks in the Commuter Terminal and a wider selection of eateries in the Interisland Terminal.
There are numerous shops at Honolulu International Airport, including a duty-free shop in the Overseas Terminal. Elsewhere, a newsagent is located in the Commuter Terminal and a small selection of retailers can be found in the Interisland Terminal.
A lost property service (tel: +1 808 836 6683) is located on the ground floor of the car park opposite the main terminal.
Airport facilities
The Business Centre (tel: +1 808 834 0558) in the Overseas Terminal provides photocopying, fax services, internet access, postal services and PC and mobile phone hire; it also sells basic office supplies and stationery.
Conference facilities are available in the Garden Conference Centre (tel: +1 808 836 6459), which has four conference rooms on the ground floor of the Overseas Terminal – conference facilities are also available at the Interisland Terminal.
Many airlines provide lounges for business-class passengers.
Honolulu International Airport is wheelchair accessible and provides lifts and easy-access toilets. TDD telephones are available in all terminals, and there is a TTY information hotline (tel: +1 808 836 6601). There are parking facilities for disabled travellers near the terminal entrances at the airport. A shuttle van service with wheelchair access is on hand to provide transportation. Any passengers who may require additional assistance are advised to contact their airline before travelling.
Parking is available in the multistorey car park, which can be accessed directly from the Overseas Terminal; and also in open air car parks located near all lobbies. The first 15 minutes of parking is free. An economy car park is located off-site, with shuttles transporting passengers to the terminals. Car hire companies present at Honolulu International Airport include: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, Thrifty and National. Desks for these operators can be found in the baggage claim area of the main terminal.
A-1 Rent a Car and JN Car Rentals are located off-site, and are connected to the airport by shuttle buses.
Located within walking distance of Honolulu International Airport, Honolulu Airport Hotel offers a free shuttle bus service to the terminal buildings. Facilities here include a swimming pool, free Wi-Fi internet access and limited meeting facilities.
