Tibet Visa and Passport Requirements
Do you need a Visa?
Our preferred partner VisaCentral can make applying for one fast and easy.
Apply for one now!The Tibet Autonomous Region is a province of China and so Chinese visas are required. For regulations and fees, please see the China passport & visa section.
To enter Tibet, you must also obtain a Tibet travel permit. The easiest way to do this is to join a tour group. Your agency will usually be able to arrange your permit within around seven days, although it can take longer if you're visiting restricted areas, which require additional permits. There are currently no restrictions on group size or nationality. Please note, the Tibet Tourism Bureau often puts a hold on issuing permits during times of political tensions and demonstrations and regulations are subject to change at short notice. Since 2008, no permits have been issued during the month of March each year.
