Weather in Seattle

Best time to visit

Seattle has a west coast temperate marine climate with wet and chilly days throughout most of the year, so bring an umbrella or rain jacket when you visit.

Spring (March to May) is pleasant with flowers in peak bloom and the big crowds are yet to arrive. This is a good time to visit Seattle. Time your visit with the Seattle Restaurant Week and a comedy event called Moisture Festival.

Summer (June to August) is high season, with local residents and tourists go to parks and festivals and make the most of the sunshine. Expect higher accommodation prices and book in advance.

Autumn (September to November) sees temperatures decline from 21°C (70°F) to 10°C (50°F) over a couple months. The acclaimed Bumbershoot festival takes place over the Memorial Day weekend in September, plus major theatre and dance companies also kick start their annual season.

Winter (December to March) is generally wet and dreary, though the lively Seattle Winterfest (November and December) helps and there are other indoor events to compensate too. The average high temperature in January is 7°C (45°F) so wrap up warm.
