It’s not quite what you’d expect from this makeup wearing rocker, as it’s his love of sports that’s more evident here. The ambience is relaxed and friendly; just don’t talk during a touchdown. The bar offers a late night menu which caters for hamburger and hotdog lovers – it’s like being at a game except without the crowds.
This Mexican-inspired restaurant also offers a bar with the best Margaritas in town. There is a party atmosphere as well as an impressive cocktail menu. The bar boasts a Tequila list as long as your arm. The Salty Señorita hosts a variety of events, including chicks salsa, and a Gospel brunch which sees patrons make their own omelettes and Bloody Marys.
Clubs in Phoenix
Spinning the best in house and hop-hop, this bi-level club in Downtown Phoenix is a popular hangout with the local student crowd. Its rooftop bar offers great views over the city and and hosts some of the city's biggest DJs.
Open seven nights a week, Karamba is the biggest gay club in Phoenix. The proprietors promise “sparkle, swagger and sexy basslines”, and they deliver on these three points with a programme of theme nights and drag shows.
This trendy nightclub is the place to be seen at the weekend. The music is an eclectic and fierce mix of Hispanic pop music, with a little reggae thrown in. Regular events, guest DJs and occasional live acts keep this club well up in the popularity list. It is by far the most popular club for local party-goers determined to dance the night away, and the music doesn’t stop until you do.
Live Music in Phoenix
This rustic, western bar welcomes new acts every week, giving raw, undiscovered talent the chance to showcase their music. There is a resident country band as well, and it’s western theme springs into action with regular line dancing nights – as well as free lessons for those who are yet to pop their hoedown cherries. Cowboy boots are optional.
Recreating the classics, from Carmen to Otello, the Arizona Opera is a no-expense spared production company with a flair for the dramatic. The company regularly provides performances at the Phoenix Symphony Hall, which is also home to the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra. This club is a one-stop shop for nightly entertainment. Different acts appear on the stage every night and the club advertises forthcoming events on its website one month in advance. Blues music is a favourite, although any act with talent is welcomed. Tickets are available on the door or through Ticketmaster, but the venue does get packed, so advance booking is advisable.
