Henri Coandă International Airport is the larger of two airports serving the Romanian capital, Bucharest. Our guide to the airport includes important contact details and information regarding public transport, terminal facilities and nearby accommodation.

Airport news

The airport has currently undergone a €150 million improvement programme, including expansion of the Departures and Arrivals halls. A second terminal is planned for future development.

Information desks are located in both Departures (tel: +4 021 204 1210) and Arrivals (tel: +4 021 204 1220).

Driving directions

From central Bucharest, the National Route 1 (also designated E60) leads almost directly to the airport, passing Băneasa Airport on the way, which should not be confused with OTP. The airport access road leads off Route 1. The journey time from central Bucharest is 20-50 minutes, depending on traffic.

Public Transport

Public transport rail

The airport railway station is less than 1km (0.6 miles) from the terminal – shuttle buses link the station with the airport. Direct trains (www.cfrcalatori.ro) run from here to Bucharest North railway station. Journey time is 20-25 minutes, and the adult single fare is 6.80 Lei.

Public transport road

Bus: Express bus 780 also links the airport with the Bucharest North station, while route 783 runs into the heart of the city centre. Single fare is 3.50 Lei, and buses depart regularly 24 hours a day. Journey times can vary between 30 and 60 minutes according to the time of day. A hotel shuttle service operates to selected Bucharest hotels.

Taxi: Cabs, with fares of up to 1.40 lei/km, are available at the taxi station outside of the arrivals terminal. Private taxis can also be ordered via a touch screen in the public arrivals hall. Passengers then take the automatically issued ticket to the taxi rank outside. Example fares to the city centre range from 25-45 lei (approx. €5-12), and the trip takes 20-50 minutes.
