Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport Guide (LOS)
Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport is situated in the suburb of Ikeja, 12km (7 miles) northwest of Lagos.
Murtala Muhammed International Airport serves the city of Lagos, the largest city in Nigeria and the African continent. Our Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport guide contains a wealth of information about the airport, including details of terminal facilities, public transport access and nearby accommodation options.
Tourist information is available at the customer service desk in the arrivals hall. This desk can also assist with accommodation booking.
The terminals are roughly 1.5km (1 mile) apart. Passengers can therefore make this journey on foot or hail a taxi. Those who are not local should be wary of unscrupulous drivers who will charge exorbitant prices for this ferrying service.
From central Lagos, head westwards on Bailey Street towards the northbound Ikorodu Road (A1), which leads directly to the airport entrance. The total drive time from central Lagos to the airport is approximately 30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
Public Transport
Shuttle: Many of Lagos' larger hotels, along with those closest to the airport, will likely arrange shuttle transfers for their guests as part of their service.
Taxi: Taxis are the easiest and safest way to travel from Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport to the city. Choose one of the licensed yellow taxis outside the terminal (upstairs, outside the departure lounge), check the driver's ID, then tell him where you are going and agree on a fare before setting off (guideline - around NGN6,000). Touts should be ignored. If arriving after dark, it is wise to go directly to a nearby hotel and travel to the city in daylight, as taxi hijacks at night remain a safety issue.
Terminal facilities
Free Wi-Fi internet access is available in the departure areas of Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport, for passengers waiting to board their flight. Additionally, a post office is located in the international terminal.
Duty-free shopping is available in the international terminal but the choice is relatively limited.
Trolleys are available within both terminals. For lost and found queries, passengers should contact the main airport information desk (tel: +234 1 493 3385).
Please note: passengers should beware of opportunist unofficial 'porters' operating at the airport, often congregating around the main entrance.
Airport facilities
There is a choice of business and VIP lounges in the terminal complex. More extensive conference and business facilities, including rooms for up to 350 delegates, are available at the Sheraton Lagos Hotel (tel: +234 1 280 0100; www.sheratonlagos.com), 4km (2.5 miles) from the airport.
There are 750 short-stay car parking spaces at Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
Avis and Hertz both have desks in the terminal. It is also possible to hire a car from most of the big international hotels.
Please note: fuel shortages often occur in Nigeria, so keep your tank’s fuel level high to avoid running out in the event of a national shortage. Roads are in poor condition. Take care when travelling on major roads and in traffic jams as robberies can occur: keep valuables out of sight and keep doors and windows locked. Aim to travel during daylight when possible.
