Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport is the largest airport in Nepal and serves the capital city, Kathmandu. Information

Nepal Tourism Board operates a staffed information centre in the terminal that can arrange hotel bookings and provides pamphlets and other tourist information.

Transfer between terminals

The International and Domestic Terminals are housed within a single building.

Driving directions

From the centre of Kathmandu, follow Pashupati Road eastwards before joining Ring Road, which directly passes the airport. Follow signs to the terminals. The total drive time from Kathmandu to the airport is approximately 15 minutes.

Public Transport

Public transport road

Bus: There are regular (and very cheap) bus services to the city centre, which leave from outside the terminal building. The journey time to downtown Kathmandu is approximately 20 to 30 minutes.

Shuttle: Many larger hotels provide pre-arranged shuttle services.

Taxi: Taxis can be booked and paid for in advance at the taxi counter right outside of the arrivals terminal. The journey time to the city is around 10 to 15 minutes. Fares are posted on a board at the airport and start at around Rs700.

Terminal facilities

Money

There is one currency exchange counter in the departure lounge and two in the arrivals lounge. Several ATMs are located throughout the airport.

Communication

There is free wifi available in the International Terminal Building and after passing through immigration. There is a post office located on the ground floor and there are two pressrooms on the first floor. Charging hubs are available throughout the airport.

Food

Snacks and drinks are available on the ground floor while the Thai Royal Silk Lounge is located in the departure hall of the international terminal. A.B.P., Karki, and other tea and coffee shops are also on hand at the airport.

Shopping

Duty-free shopping is available in Departures and a souvenir shop is located on the ground floor. There is a shop selling souvenirs and locally made gifts.

Luggage

There are numerous individuals around the airport who will offer to carry luggage (for a fee). Trolley services are available throughout both terminals and the baggage help desk located in the arrivals area provides information for passengers about their luggage. Any lost baggage can also be reported to the baggage help desk.

Other

There are senior citizen and breast-feeding rooms at both departure and arrival areas.

Conference and business

Basic communication services are available at the telecommunications counter. The CIP lounge in the departures area can be used by business travellers at a rate of Rs 450 per hour per person. Two press rooms are available for hire – these have capacities of 30 and 40 people and can be used for conferences.

Meeting facilities are available at numerous Kathmandu hotels.

Disabled facilities

Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport is accessible to physically disabled passengers, with ramps and toilet facilities for wheelchair users. Any passengers who may require additional assistance are advised to contact their airline before travelling.

Long and short-term parking is available outside the terminal building for both two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles.

There are no hotels at Kathmandu Airport, but there are many in the nearby city centre, which has a number of international chains as well as independent hotels, hostels and guesthouses.
