Best time to visit

Moscow is known for its long, freezing winters, when the city is covered with a thick layer of snow. Perhaps not so well known are its warm summers, with temperatures often reaching into the high twenties.

Spring (March to May) starts off cold but gets steadily warmer, with temperatures in May hovering at around 15°C (59°F). Spring is a good time to visit if you want to avoid the crowds.

Summer (June to August) is the peak tourist season in Moscow. The city can get very crowded and humid. Average temperatures in the summer range from 18°C (64°F)
to 21°C (70°F), but can sometimes reach a high of 26°C (79°F) in July.

Autumn (September to November) begins pleasantly, but can get quite cold by the end of the season. To avoid the of summer tourists, and before it gets too cold, visiting Moscow in September in a good idea. Autumn is also the wettest season, so make sure to pack an umbrella or raincoat.

Winter (December to February) is bitterly cold - only the brave visit at this time as temperatures can reach -9°C (16°F). Although freezing, a cover of fresh snow does serve to give the city an undeniably romantic atmosphere.
