Join the Melbourne Greeter Service, a free, two to four hour walking orientation tour of Melbourne, departing the Melbourne Visitor Information Centre in Federation Square at 0930 daily (bookings required with 24 hours notice). Check online or at the Visitor Centre for orientations in French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish (and many other languages on request). Greeters are trained volunteers eager to share their local knowledge. Heritage Walking Tours are self-guided tours detailed in a series of maps, which are available from the Melbourne Visitor Information Centre and tourist information booths throughout the city.

Located just 90 minutes southeast of Melbourne, Phillip Island is a quick getaway that offers rugged coastlines, beautiful beaches, surfing reserves, and wildlife encounters. The island's native penguins are the most popular attraction here, emerging from the sea at dusk to huddle in their dunes at night. Visitors can catch the “Penguin Parade” cross the beach from viewing stands at the island’s Nature Parks. Before taking their place for the daily parade around sunset, visitors can enjoy a helicopter tour of the island, rent an aquabike, or see the koalas and dingos at the Maru Koala and Animal Park.
