Restaurants in Las Vegas
Most of the best restaurants in Las Vegas are to be found within the hotel and casino complexes, and they each fight to sign big names to draw in the crowds. Dining choices are usually overwhelming, even within individual properties, so you should have no problem finding your favourite cuisine.
The restaurants below have been grouped into three pricing categories:
Expensive (over $100)
Moderate ($50 to $100)
Cheap (up to $50)
These prices are for a three-course meal for one, including half a bottle of house wine or equivalent, tax and service.
There is an 8.1% restaurant tax in Las Vegas for both eat-in and takeaway purchases. The tax is normally added to the bill at the time of payment, although some buffets and fast-food chains may incorporate the tax in their prices. Service charges are unusual in Las Vegas (except for parties of eight to 10 or more); it is more usual to leave a 15 to 20% tip.
barMASA
Arguably the best Japanese option in the city, barMASA showcases the culinary talents of chef Masa Takayama. The sushi and sashimi is simply prepared and ultra-fresh – the boast is that the bluefin tuna was swimming in the seas around Japan less than 24 hours before it arrived on your plate. Other dishes are blended in a distinctive splash of Southwestern Latino spice.
Twist by Pierre Gagnaire
Situated on the 23rd floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel is the first U.S. restaurant by world-renowned, three-star Michelin Chef Pierre Gagnaire. The menu infuses the simplicity of classic French cuisine with a modern spin, relying on a pairing of flavours and textures for which Gagnaire is renowned. 300 illuminated globes make the ceiling glow, reflecting the lights of Vegas below.
L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon
The first and youngest chef ever to win three Michelin stars, Robuchon has been dubbed the ‘chef of the century’. This, one of two Robuchon restaurants at the MGM Grand, offers what many critics consider to be the best French food in North America. Sophisticated palates will enjoy an onslaught of flavours, with many ingredients flown in from France. A special dining experience by any standard.
Gonzalez y Gonzalez
With its 'fiesta' atmosphere of candy-filled piñata toys and brightly lit courtyard dining, Gonzalez in the New York-New York Hotel and Casino is probably just as popular for its selection of traditional Mexican drinks as for its food. Typical meals include burritos, enchiladas and tacos (corn or flour tortillas filled with a choice of meat, vegetables and a spicy sauce).
Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse
Whether you’re looking for succulent filet mignon or a slab of prime ribeye, this place is regarded having the best steaks in town. Located in the iconic Golden Nugget Hotel in the heart of the downtown area, the setting couldn’t be better either. Seafood lovers will also drool over the fresh scallops, lobster and crab, although vegetarians might be better off averting their eyes and looking elsewhere.
Chart House
Part of the Rush Tower development at the Golden Nugget Hotel, Chart House is immediately striking, with its 75,000 gallon aquarium integrated into the interior design. The menu is also predominantly aquatic in nature, with macadamia-crusted mahi and Lobster Francese heading up the signature dishes. The tropical fish floating around among the tables make for a relaxing atmosphere, a world away from the frantic casino downstairs.
JJ's Boulangerie
This small, open French-style bakery with terrace seating serves both pastries and freshly made sandwiches. Set on the edge of a Parisian-style promenade, the bakery is a great place to people watch while sipping a cappuccino. There is also an ice cream and confectionery counter featuring various light desserts at the back of the store.
Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas
A diverting alternative to the eateries along the Strip, the Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas aims to recreate the ambience, food and drink of an authentic Bavarian bierhaus, with live music, imported German beers and a good menu offering everything from giant pretzels and wiener schnitzels to Oktoberfest roast chicken. If you approach the evening in the right spirit – one of fun, principally – it makes for a good choice.
P F Chang’s
A cheap and cheerful Chinese bistro at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, P F Chang’s offers a strong range of signature dishes (oolong-marinated sea bass and Mongolian beef among them) alongside a good drinks list. For the price, it’s a decent option.
