Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Guide (BOM)
Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is the main airport for the bustling city of Mumbai in western India and is one of the busiest airports in the country. Our guide to the airport includes information regarding terminal facilities, public transport routes and nearby accommodation options.
Tourist information desks are located in the arrivals and departures areas of both terminals and are open 24 hours a day (tel: +91 22 6685 1010).
The airport terminals are spread over two different locations, 4km (2.5 miles) apart. Airport taxi services can be used to transfer passengers between the terminals.
The airport is well signposted from Mumbai. Take Dr Anandrao Nair Marg, Dr E Moses Road and Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road to Bandra – Worli Sea Link to the Western Express Highway which passes the airport site (Terminal 1) at Santa Cruz. Terminal 2 can be reached by heading further north on the highway before turning eastwards onto Sahar Airport Road.
Public Transport
Rail: A railway reservation counter is situated in Terminal 2. Trains run regularly to the city centre from the domestic terminals nearest station, Vile Parle, and Andheri, the station closest to the International Terminal. Buses 321 and 308 connect the airport with both stations respectively. For further information check the Indian Railways website (www.indianrailways.gov.in). Note that foreign tourists are often permitted to board the first class section of local trains, which are often far less crowded than regular carriages.
Bus: The BEST (tel: +91 2413 7937; www.bestundertaking.com) city bus connects the airport with central Mumbai and its suburbs. Bus 35 connects the airport with Dadar Station, from which a number of buses (61 and 70) run on to various destinations in the city centre. Local bus fares are very low, but travelling on this mode of transport can be crowded and, at times, chaotic, which can be difficult when travelling with luggage. Check the website for more details.
Coach: Intercity coach services can be booked in the arrival areas of Terminal 2.
Taxi: Pre-paid taxis, metered taxis and motor rickshaws are available at the airport. Rates to central Mumbai start at around INR170 with an air-conditioned vehicle and the journey time is upwards of 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Both terminals also have stands for app-based cab services Ola and Uber.
Terminal facilities
Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Telecommunications centres, offering telephones and internet services, are also located in both terminals.

Left-luggage facilities are available in both terminals (tel: +91 770 099 9332 for Terminal 1; +91 770 099 9331 for Terminal 2).
Items misplaced within the terminals should be reported to the Lost and Found departments. Passengers can also contact the team via email (csmia.lostproperty@gvk.com).
Airport facilities
A business centre and executive lounges are situated in the departure areas of both terminals. Facilities in these areas include internet access and spa services. Various airlines also provide their own business class lounges.
More extensive conference, banqueting and business facilities are also available at the nearby LaLiT Hotel (tel: +91 22 6699 2222; www.thelalit.com).
Car parking areas are provided at both terminals. There are more than 2,000 spaces in total across both terminals, with premium and standard car parking options available.
A local car rental agency can be found in Terminal 2. It's not common, due to Indian road conditions, for tourists to opt for a self-drive vehicle as a means of transport in Mumbai, and cars with drivers are not expensive. Details of operators can be found on the airport website.
Just five minutes by taxi from Terminal 2, the 171-room Hilton is a modern hotel built in a traditional style. Among its facilities are an outdoor pool, a choice of restaurants and a business centre.
This 369-room hotel is a short drive from the airport site. Boasting a wide range of facilities including a spa, outdoor pool and various dining choices, the hotel also houses a business centre and meeting space.
Handy for the business district in north Mumbai, the Courtyard offers a fitness centre with a pool and spa facility, as well as a range of meeting rooms. On-site dining options include a 24-hour café and a large restaurant.
The 2-star Hotel Midland Mumbai is about 10 minutes' drive from the airport. It offers a multi-cuisine restaurant, airport shuttle service, Wi-Fi and a roof terrace.
