The cosmopolitan cities of central Canada have history, culture and multiculturalism – in spades. Toronto, Canada’s answer to Metropolis, is big, chic and showy, with a kaleidoscope of shopping streets, cafés, art galleries, bars and restaurants.

You’ll be mesmerised too, by the spectacular sight of Niagara Falls where you can get close up and personal with the thundering waters and watch them lit up at night from the Skylon Tower’s revolving dining room.

The national capital, Ottawa, is a dynamic city alive with celebration, beginning with the Winterlude festival in February. It’s a uniquely beautiful destination; an urban hub on the very edge of nature where you can enjoy the great outdoors as well as the finer things in life. There’s an easy vibe here and Ottawa is known for being welcoming and walkable. Plus, in winter you can skate on the famous Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Montréal is Canada’s French-speaking centre where European influences flavour the food, the fashion and the city’s architecture. And in Québec you can even sip a cocktail from a glass made of ice at The Ice Hotel – one of the world’s ‘coolest’ places to stay. Watch ice being sculpted too, and visit the gleaming ice palace at Carnavale de Québec, the largest winter carnival in the world.
