Munich Airport (Flughafen München in German), also known by its namesake Franz Josef Strauss, is a significant air hub serving as the second busiest in Germany after Frankfurt Airport. Home to two passenger terminals, T1 and T2, it efficiently manages the influx of millions of travellers each year.

Beware that Munich Airport's Terminal 2 has two buildings – Gates G and H are in the T2 building, while Gates J, K, L and SAT are in the Terminal 2 Satellite building.

The information desk on Level 3 in the main concourse operates 24 hours.

Other information desks located on Level 4 (Terminal 1) and Levels 3 and 4 (Terminal 2) are available during flight operations.

Transfer between terminals

A shuttle bus service links Terminals 1 and 2 from 07:00 to 17:00 at a 10-minute interval and every 20 minutes outside these hours. Passengers can also spend 10 minutes walking between these two terminals.

An underground shuttle train service connects the T2 main building (Gates G and H) with the T2 Satellite (Gates J, K, L, and SAT) every 4 minutes from early morning until midnight.

Driving directions

Munich Airport is accessible via Autobahn 92 (BAB92 or A92), a 134-km long highway that connects Munich with Deggendorf. Exit 6 leads to the airport.

Typical drive time from Munich city center to the airport is around 40 minutes.

Public Transport

Public transport rail

Rail: S1 and S8 commuter trains connect the airport with central Munich locations, including the main station (Hauptbahnhof) and Marienplatz. Visitors can use the MVV site (Munich Transit Authority) to plan a journey.

Public transport road

Bus: Lufthansa Express runs an efficient service to Munich Central Station via Munich North (Schwabing). The interval is every 20 minutes. The journey time between Munich Airport and Munich Central Station is 45 minutes. Click here for the Lufthansa Express bus schedule. Passengers can buy tickets from the machines within the airport station or online.

Taxi: Metred taxis are available from Munich Airport to the city centre (journey time: 40 minutes). You can find taxi ranks in the Arrivals and Departures areas of Terminals 1 and 2.

Money

Several banks, ATMs and currency exchange counters are available in both terminals.

Communication

Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Munich Airport.

Deutsche Post, Germany's postal service, is available in the main concourse between the two terminals.

Food

There are around 60 restaurants, bistros and cafés at Munich Airport that offer a wide selection of Bavarian comfort food and international cuisine.

Shopping

Shops selling a wide variety of items, including gifts, accessories and electronics, are in both terminals.

Duty-free shops (for passengers leaving the EU) are in Departures, Terminal 1.

Luggage

Baggage carts are free in Arrivals. Elsewhere, they are available for €1.

Baggage storage facilities are in the main concourse (between T1 and T2), and in the public area (T2).

For lost items within Munich Airport, go to the Lost & Found counter in the main concourse. The operation hours are from 06:00 to 22:30 daily.

For lost baggage or items left on a plane, contact the respective airline for assistance.

Other

A medical clinic is located on Level 3, Terminal 1.

Pharmacies are located in the main concourse area (between T1 and T2), and also on levels 3, 4 and 5 in Terminal 2.

Shower facilities are in the main concourse area, and also on Level 3 in Terminal 2.

Conference and business

VipWing, located on Level 4 (Terminal 1), offers discreet meeting facilities.

Municon, located on Level 8 (Munich Airport Centre), has over 2,000m² of meeting spaces.

Disabled facilities

Munich Airport has a wide range of accessible facilities serving passengers with reduced mobility. Among the features are elevators, ramps, automatic doors, and adapted toilets.

Travellers requiring special assistance should contact the airline at least 48 hours in advance.

Car parking

Car parks P1, P3, P5 and P7 are close to Terminal 1.

Car parks P20, P26 and P27 are close to Terminal 2.

Car parks P41, P43, P44, P50, P51 and P90 are located along Zentralallee. From here, passengers can either take Bus line 635 or S-Bahn (S1 or S8) to the terminal building.

Valet parking is also available.
