After a traditional Victorian-style Irish bar in Doha? Look no further. Tucked inside the Sheraton Hotel, this laid back venue ticks the usual Irish pub boxes, with live music, burgers, TV screens showing the latest sports and, of course, a good range of beer. The Guinness is surprisingly good, although punishingly expensive.
Doha Nightlife
Doha’s nightlife has grown into a generous offering of live music venues, bars and clubs, although most still tend to be concentrated around the international hotels. If you’re going to a venue that isn’t in the hotel you are staying at, make sure you take ID and check before whether it’s a membership-only venue. Bear in mind that outside of the international hotels, alcohol is almost wholly unavailable.
Hotel concierges can be the best point of contact for more information, while Time Out Doha (www.timeoutdoha.com) has up-to-date listings of everything going on around the city.
Bars in Doha
Nobu Doha, located upon its own island peninsula next to the Four Seasons Hotel, is one of the most architecturally ambitious venues from this Japanese restaurant and bar group. Head up to the rooftop on a warm evening for sake infused cocktails, relaxed house music and sublime views of the city.
This worldwide restaurant and cocktail bar chain brings its Polynesian inspired interiors and grass skirts to the Hilton Hotel in West Bay. If you can see past the slightly gimmicky exterior, it’s worth a visit for its live bands and tasty Mai Tais, one of a list of 200 cocktails.
Clubs in Doha
Arguably the hippest club and champagne bar in the city, Crystal brings a touch of Manhattan bling to Doha, with a dimly lit purple and gold interior, and hip hop and dance beats until 2am. This “sassy and swanky nightclub” features Ladies nights, Arabesque Nights and occasional visits from international DJs.
Found at the Marsa Malaz Kempinski, in one of the city’s most prestigious postcodes, Illusion is where Doha’s socialites go to be seen. Head to the 1933 Grand Dome or rooftop garden on Level 6 and expect house music, DJs, opulent interiors and on select nights, dizzying acrobatic performances.
One of Doha’s most adventurous and busiest nightclubs, Qube is hidden deep in the belly of the Radisson Blu Hotel. The huge space can take a while to warm up, but once the DJs pull out a choice selection of house, hip hop and Indian tunes, things can get lively. Qube also features live bands.
Live Music in Doha
Doubling as a steakhouse, the first jazz club in the city has live music six nights a week. If you don’t fancy the food, simply sit at the bar and sip a cocktail. The house band is 4TheMusic, a five-piece act that specialise in traditional jazz, but there are often guest performers and tribute nights.
After a couple of sundowners at the rooftop Sky View Lounge, head to the Mezzanine level of La Cigale Hotel for a night at the Madison Piano Bar. One-man-act Rami Mrad entertains with eclectic Arabic music (every night except Sundays), all within a sophisticated, contemporary setting.
Classically shaken New York cocktails and a ‘Piano Bites’ menu create the perfect setting for a spot of jazz at The Ritz-Carlton’s Admiral’s Club. This surprisingly laid back venue features twice-monthly Irish bands, 90s themed Late Night Shows and many other quality acts, with top-notch views of the Arabian Gulf.
