Bent on proving that there’s more to Texan food than steak, Dallas’ food tour takes in some of the diverse restaurants in the uptown district – with cuisines ranging from Middle Eastern to Tex-Mex. There is lots of walking involved but given the amount of food consumed, that’s just as well.

Excursions from Dallas
Roughly 40 miles west of Big D, Cowtown, as Fort Worth is colloquially known, began worth as a military outpost before becoming a hub for cattle ranchers and the beef trade. Unsurprisingly, cowboy culture is still king with highlights including the Stockyards National Historic District, the plethora of Western-themed boutiques and the lively downtown area around Sundance Square.
A quaint old town less than an hour’s drive away, Waxahachie is one of the original Western towns and is centred around the pretty Ellis County Courthouse. There’s also a lovely museum, a small art centre called the Webb Gallery and an annual festival that celebrates the gorgeous pink, purple and white flowers that bloom all over town come summer.
