Billed as a 'big festival on a little island', the Lameque International Baroque Music Festival began with a harpsichord recital in 1971 and grew from there. It is now Canada's oldest festival of its kind, attracting thousands of music lovers to the picturesque island and treating them to a feast of early music. Featuring outstanding performances on period or replica instruments, the festival is dedicated to the music of the 1600-1760 period and includes vocal and instrumental selections, choral works, chamber music and solo pieces. The whole island of Lameque celebrates together, putting on a show of street entertainers and colourful banners and flags in the town.
