Brussels Airport Guide (BRU)
Brussels Airport is Belgium's busiest airport and is strategically placed for access to the country's capital, NATO headquarters and European Union buildings. Construction of a new terminal facility for low-cost airlines has been put on indefinite hold.
An airport information desk, open from 0600 to 2200 during the week and until 2100 on weekends, is available in the arrivals area. There is also an Information Call Centre (tel: +32 2 753 7753).
Brussels Airport is easily accessible from the Brussels inner and outer ring road – follow signs for Brussels Airport or Zaventem. The journey time from central Brussels is approximately 20 minutes.
Public Transport
Rail: The airport train station is located below the terminal. Trains from Brussels Airport go to several stations in central Brussels as well as other cities in Belgium and neighbouring countries. The journey to Brussels Central takes 17 minutes and tickets start at €18 (tel: +32 2528 2828; www.belgiantrain.be).
Bus: De Lijn (tel: +32 7 022 0200; www.delijn.be) buses serve Brussels North station (lines 272 and 471) and routes throughout Flanders. The MIVB/STIB (tel: +32 7 023 2000; www.stib.be) Airport Line service links Brussels Airport to NATO, the European Commission area and the city centre (journey time: 30 minutes).
Coach: Scheduled Airport Express (tel: +32 5 233 4000; www.airportexpress.be) coaches run to Antwerp (journey time: 45 minutes; fare: €10). Flixbus run coaches to several destinations in Europe including Bruges, Paris and Amsterdam (+49 30 300 137 300; www.flixbus.be).
Taxi: Metered taxis are available outside the arrivals hall, identified by yellow-blue license marks. Taxi Hendriks (tel: +32 2 752 9800) has wheelchair-accessible taxis. The fare to the city centre is around €45, and the journey time is 20 to 30 minutes. It is recommended that visitors only use licensed taxis.
Terminal facilities
Banking, currency exchange and ATM facilities are all available at various points within the terminal building.
Free Wi-Fi Internet access is available at Brussels Airport and Internet kiosks are accessible throughout the airport. Additionally, mobile telephones can be hired from rent2connect in the arrivals hall. There is also a post office in Arrivals and several letterboxes around the terminal.
There are several bars, cafés, restaurants and vending machines in both piers, as well as in the main departures area. These outlets serve everything from Belgian beer to fast food and seafood. There is a café, snack bar and pub in Arrivals.
There is a wide variety of shops at Brussels Airport, from sweet shops to fashion outlets. Duty-free is available for passengers leaving the EU.
Left-luggage lockers can be found on the ground floor of the terminal and in the shopping area of Pier A. There is a baggage wrapping service on the departures level. Porters are on hand to assist with luggage for a small fee if booked at least 48 hours in advance. Airport facilities
The Regus Skyport Meeting Centre (tel: +32 2 753 2660; www.regus.be) houses 10 meeting rooms and provides secretarial services, catering and internet connection. In addition, three rooms are available at the Brucargo complex. Additionally, the Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel (tel: +32 2 710 8000; www.brusselsairporthotel.be), adjacent to the terminal, has conference space, a business centre and banqueting rooms.
Lifts, moving walkways, wide doorways and ramps allow easy access in and around the terminal. Assistance between car parks and check-in is offered by Axxicom Airport Caddy (www.nl.axxicom.be/home), and should be ordered at least 48 hours in advance. Passengers requiring special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel.
Outside the terminal, there is a designated pick-up and drop-off zone for disabled passengers, and designated disabled parking is available in the short-stay car park in front of the terminal building.
Visitors can choose from a range of parking options close to the terminal building: the P1 car park for short-stay parking, P2 for economy parking, and P3 and P4 for long-term parking. The long-term Car Hotel (tel: +32 2 753 0110; www.carhotel.be) provides a shuttle service to/from the terminal, as well as a valet service – spaces in this area should be reserved 48 hours in advance. VIP and Lock parking is also available through interparking (tel: +32 2 715 2110; www.brusselsairport.interparking.be).
Car hire operators at Brussels Airport include: Avis, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt. Desks for these operators are located in the arrivals hall.
Among the more luxurious options in the area, the Crowne Plaza Brussels Airport is just 5 minutes from Brussels Airport by shuttle bus. The hotel has an on-site business centre, conference facilities, health and fitness club, a spa, a bar and a restaurant.
A convenient complimentary shuttle connects this mid-range hotel with the nearby airport. Business guests should find the 24-hour business centre of use, and meeting space is available to hire. Those seeking to relax can head to the health and fitness facilities, spa and indoor pool, or re-energise at the full-service restaurant and bar.
The only on-site hotel at Brussels Airport, the Sheraton is within walking distance of the terminal and features dining, business facilities and fitness facilities.
A good-value hotel with a handy complimentary airport shuttle service and free Wi-Fi, the 120-room Mercure Brussels Airport houses a fitness centre and self-service business facilities. An on-site restaurant with a terrace and bar is available for use by guests.
