V. C. Bird International Airport is located 8km (5 miles) northeast of St John’s, on the island of Antigua.
V. C. Bird International Airport is the largest of Antigua and Barbuda’s three airports and is the only one located on Antigua island. Our guide to the airport includes important information on terminal facilities, public transport and nearby hotels.
V. C. Bird International Airport is situated in the north of the island, a 10-minute drive from St John's. From the centre of the city, it can be accessed via Old Parham Road, which connects to the northeast-bound Sir George Walter Highway towards the airport.
Public Transport
Bus:Some local buses operate along Sir George Walter Highway to and from St John's, but the stop is some distance from the terminal – this mode of transport is not recommended for passengers with heavy bags.
Taxi:Taxis (tel: +1 268 784 2653 and +1 268 562 0262) are available for hire to local hotels and St John's (journey time: 10-15 minutes).
Aeroplane:LIAT (tel: +1 268 480 5600; www.liatairline.com) operates flights between Antigua and islands all over the Caribbean. The ticket desk is located in Arrivals.
Terminal facilities
A bank and ATM is available at V. C. Bird International Airport 24 hours a day. There is a bureau de change in the terminal.
Free Wi-Fi internet access is available at V.C. Bird International Airport in the departures lounge. A post office is located in the terminal building. Public telephones are also available at certain points.
There are numerous shops at V. C. Bird International Airport, including duty-free. Products available range from music to local gifts, jewellery and souvenirs.

Airport facilities
There are no dedicated business or conference facilities at V. C. Bird International Airport, but numerous hotels and resorts on the island offer these services. A VIP lounge provides newspapers, magazines, TV and a refreshments service.
Car hire companies represented at V. C. Bird International Airport include: Avis, Dollar, Hertz, Alamo and Thrifty, as well as several local operators.
The closest luxury accommodation option to the airport, Sugar Ridge is a large resort complex on the coast with both a deluxe villa and rooms available. Spas, yoga classes, pools and evening entertainment are offered, along with a wide choice of restaurants.
Located in Dickenson Bay, 10km (6 miles) from the airport, the large Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa offers a mindboggling choice of 11 restaurants and a good selection of bars. Other facilities here include a wide choice of activities, an opulent spa and nightly entertainment.
Set amongst luscious gardens on the edge of a white sandy beach, Galley Bay Resort and Spa offers accommodation in cottages and beachfront rooms. Hotel facilities include three restaurants, a spa and various water sports activities.
The best choice for those on a budget, the Wind Chimes Inn is less than five minutes from the airport, and is also close to restaurants and nightlife – St. John’s is 10 minutes away by taxi. Free Wi-Fi internet access is available, as well as complimentary breakfast.
