Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza Guide (TIA)
The airport is located 13.5km (8 miles) northwest of central Tirana.
Named in memory of Mother Teresa, who was of Albanian origin, Tirana International Airport is located close to the Albanian capital city of Tirana and is the country’s primary international airport. From central Tirana, follow the main SH2 road northwest, then turn right onto SH60 (airport signposted), which leads directly to the airport entrance. The total drive time from Tirana to the airport is approximately 25 minutes.
Public Transport
Bus:Direct Rinas Express bus services operate hourly between the airport and the city centre from 0600-1800 (Journey time: 30-35 minutes; fare: ALL250).
Taxi:Official cabs (tel: +355 4 238 7070; www.atex.al) are readily available outside the terminal (journey time: 20-25 minutes; fare: ALL2,500). The airport advises travellers not to use taxis that aren’t yellow and bearing the red ATEX logo.
Terminal facilities
ATMs are available in the check-in hall and Arrivals, while bureau de change desks can also be found in the same locations.
Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Tirana International Airport. Public telephones are also available.
There are bars in Arrivals and Departures, a coffee bar in Departures, and a restaurant outside the terminal opposite Arrivals.
Duty-free shopping is available in Departures, where there are outlets offering jewellery, clothing, luxury goods and souvenirs. In the check-in hall, there is a book shop, a confectioner's and a souvenir shop along with mobile phone outlets.
There are no left luggage facilities at the airport, but free trolleys are provided. Any passengers who think they’ve misplaced an item should report to the lost property desk (tel: +355 4 238 1681).
Airport facilities
There are no meeting facilities at the airport; however, The Airport Hotel (tel: +355 4 450 0190; www.hotel-airportirana.com) opposite the main terminal entrance offers meeting rooms with capacity for up to 50 people. Additionally, there is a spacious VIP lounge in Departures.
Designated disabled parking spaces are located close to the terminal on ground level and are all wheelchair-accessible. Further assistance to passengers with reduced mobility is available via a dedicated airport service (tel: +355 4 238 1800). Passengers requiring additional assistance are advised to contact their airline before travelling.
There are a total of 490 car parking spaces at Tirana International Airport. Short- and long-term parking is located in two car parks (one covered) immediately outside the terminal building. The first seven minutes of parking are free of charge.
International car hire companies including: Avis, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt are represented at the airport, along with several local operators. Desks are situated in the public arrivals area of the terminal.
Located immediately opposite the airport entrance, Hotel Airport Tirana has 50 rooms, including luxury suites, along with a bar, restaurant, conference room and fitness centre.
Located conveniently close to the airport, the Best Western Premier Ark Hotel is a modern property with two restaurants serving a choice of Albanian and international cuisine. It has a gymnasium, spa and business centre, along with meeting facilities and an airport shuttle service.
This hotel’s location just 1km (0.6 miles) from the airport and 3km (1.8 miles) from the historic city centre makes it a great choice for both holidaymakers and business travellers. The Hotel Aurelis houses a restaurant that serves traditional Albanian cuisine and Mediterranean specialities. Wi-Fi internet access is available.
