Chahar Shanbeh Suri

This holiday takes place the night before Nowruz and originates from the belief that the living were visited by the spirits of their ancestors on the last day of the year. Today, people light fires and run through the streets making loud noises to beat out the last Wednesday of the year. “Chahar Shanbeh Suri” translates to “Red Wednesday” or “Feast Wednesday.”
