Cotswold House Hotel and Spa

Situated in the beautiful Cotswold town of Chipping Campden, the luxurious Cotswold House Hotel and Spa is the perfect tranquil retreat for a break full of relaxation and indulgence.

Dating back to 1802, the beautiful yellow stone building retains all of its history and character, yet combines fantastic contemporary touches and state of the art technology throughout. There are a number of rooms to choose from, including the sumptuous Montrose House suites attached to the main house.

However, we stayed in one of the equally luxurious cottages, whose private garden, cosy open fire, Bang and Olufsen gadgets and luxurious toiletries made us want to take up permanent residence. Cotswold House Hotel certainly goes the extra mile to ensure a relaxing stay, from a pillow menu to one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, they have everything covered to ensure a night of restorative sleep.

Once rest was covered, the next thing to satisfy was our hunger, and the Cotswold House Hotel is definitely not for those on a diet – from the extensive mouth-watering breakfast menu to the top-quality dishes served in the Hicks at Cotswold House restaurant, the food is impeccable and hard to resist.

Headed by executive head chef Damien Clisby, Hicks is dedicated to offering top quality produce from dedicated and local suppliers – the result being wonderfully cooked food and fresh flavours with no hint of pretension. The ox cheek was sensational, as was the extremely fresh sea bass, served with simple, buttered new potatoes and a surprisingly tasty green salad. As testament to the excellent service, which was demonstrated throughout our stay, the sous chef left the kitchen to talk to diners and give away a few of his culinary secrets en route.

Continuing in the indulgence theme, next up was being pampered and preened. Thankfully, Cotswold House Hotel has opened its very own spa in conjunction with experts in relaxation, Temple Spa. Situated in the hotel’s converted coach house and set in tranquil gardens, the spa is a wonderful place to relax and unwind. There is a pool with inbuilt jet streams to sooth aching limbs - all at a temperature that makes it impossible to leave.

However, if a serious pampering is what you need you are in for a treat, as there is a bewildering array of inventive treatments to choose from. My husband had the “Turkish delight”, which was the most innovative and stimulating treatment available. You get all the benefits of a Turkish bath without having to leave the warmth and tranquillity of your treatment room. A body brush, scrub, massage and oil left my husband tingling clean and healthy looking. I had the facial, which was superb – using wonderful products from the Temple Spa range for a great hour of indulgence and pampering that left me feeling relaxed and wishing it would never end.

The aim of the Cotswold House Hotel and Spa is to make each stay “unforgettable, utterly pampering and indulgent”. Our verdict: three huge ticks. Though there is just one major draw-back; anytime spent there will never be enough.
