Whether it's an adventure break just for kids, or exploring the souks of Marrakech with the whole family, we have lined up our top half-term getaways for adults and children alike.

Best for...kids only

If your kids are the independent type, give them the freedom to go it alone at one of Camp Beaumont's week-long residential camps. The camp, called The Island and situated on the Isle of Wight, runs a whole range of watersports, as well as an activity park, karting, raft building and games on the beach. High-adrenaline activities can also be found in Colomendy Valley in North Wales, which features a climbing wall, giant zipwire, caving system and aerial walk.

Best for...all the family

Explore the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park in Wales with an adventure filled break at the Bluestone holiday resort. Smaller children have a range of activities designed especially for them: from a Teddy Bears' Picnic to reading time and a princess and pirate party. Older children can head to the Blue Lagoon water park, go biking, pony trekking and even go on safari in their own miniature off-road vehicle. Adults are also well catered for, with a luxurious spa and fantastic babysitting services.

Best for...teenagers

For adrenaline-fuelled rides without the mammoth queues of Disneyland Resort Paris, head for Germany's Europa-Park. The bonkers theme park is split into European themed villages, each with their own quirky twists; visit the England area and hop on the bizarre and amusing Crazy Taxi ride, where families can whizz around in mock taxis. From September 25 until November 1, the whole park is being spookified for Halloween, including decorated hotel rooms and parades. The four themed hotels, spas and swimming pools provide plenty of off-ride entertainment.

Best for....mini culture vultures

Kids can rock the Kasbah too on a colourful trip around Morocco with Adventure Company. The beautiful beaches of Aourir are perfect for some family down time, whilst the old souks of Marrakech are enthralling for all ages, with lively bazarrs, exotic treasures to discover, snake charmers and a carnival of entertainment. The company also supports local schools and can help arrange a visit to one, so your children can get a great cultural experience.

Best for...adults only

For a holiday away from hoards of half termers, head to the luxurious and adults-only El Dorado Royale Resort & Spa on Mexico's Riviera Maya. October is a great time to visit Mexico, as the rainy season has passed and the days are a comfortable sunbathing temperature. With a stunning spa, all-inclusive gourmet dining, fun activity schedule, 13 pools and beautiful landscape gardens, adults can indulge themselves, without a kid in sight.
